Meet Sergio Bodo, new Commercial Director South Europe & France

Sergio commenced an exciting journey earlier this year when he transitioned to France to join our team in Aix-en-Provence. Taking on the central role of Commercial Director South Europe & France, Sergio brings with him over 30 years of invaluable experience in the industry.

We were able to catch him for a few minutes during the quarterly planning meeting in Malmö earlier this month.

What is your experience with Nor:disk so far?

Answer

Incredibly thrilling!

My role required relocating from my homeland in Italy to Aix-en-Provence, France. This transition felt like a fresh start, both professionally and personally. There was so much to absorb and I had to adapt quickly in order to contribute to the continued growth of our company in the region.

I received invaluable assistance from everyone in Malmö during my time there, and also from the entire French team upon my arrival in Aix; I'm immensely grateful to all of them. It was like jumping onto a moving train, but once aboard it's been an exhilarating journey that I'm thoroughly enjoying!

What does your role entail?

Answer

I am responsible for developing our business in Southern Europe. This includes overseeing the French subsidiary and managing the sales team in Italy. My role involves striking a balance between consolidating and safeguarding our existing business, while also expanding into new territories and market segments. With the completion of our Water-Smart range and other upcoming product launches, there are plenty of opportunities for growth.

Working alongside our management and our commercial operations team, I develop strategies and action plans to achieve our objectives. Operationally, I collaborate with my sales team to engage with distributors, buyers, consultants, and other stakeholders in the purchasing process, ensuring they understand the benefits of choosing Nor:disk products. Ultimately, the decision to purchase our machines becomes a logical choice for them.

What about Nor:disk was most appealing to you?

Answer

The opportunity to drive and be a part of a phase of growth and expansion was appealing to me. The expansion of our product portfolio involves models and distribution channels that I have extensive experience with. I was attracted by the chance to leverage my experiences, knowledge, and skills and apply them to new circumstances, adapting them to emerging needs while also learning something new in the process. Naturally, this journey involves hard work, challenges, and risks - but as they say, the harder the climb, the more rewarding the summit!

How would you describe the culture?

Answer

The corporate culture rooted within the Sandberg Group is highly valuable, and I really appreciate it. It is inclusive, innovation-oriented, and places significant emphasis on sustainability and environmental impact. Additionally, all aspects related to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) are given considerable attention.

I believe there is a perfect balance between focusing on results and prioritizing human resources. While it may seem straightforward, it's not always easy to find such a balance in today's work environments.

Can you describe the atmosphere in your team?

Answer

Everyone is highly motivated and passionate about our mission and our daily work. There's a fantastic balance of being result-oriented while also enjoying the process and having fun. You can immediately sense that everyone is aligned and pushing in the same direction. There's a great sense of pride in representing the Nor:disk brand and in our commitment to saving the planet, one drop at a time!

Hand on heart, where do you find yourself in the kitchen – orchestrating the social side of things, crafting the food, or taking care of the dishes?

Answer

I'm not particularly good at cooking, so I would say washing the dishes... but before that, I would make sure that everything is well organized and goes smoothly 😊. I like to be helpful and create conditions for others to have a good time. I'm happy when I can make other people happy.

Background

Sergio embarked on his professional journey 30 years ago, and started out as an assistant to the Export Director at Eurotec Group. Over the next 16 years with Eurotec, he progressed through various roles, culminating in Export Director for the MBM cooking equipment division. In 2008, he joined Smeg as Director of the Foodservice Equipment Business Unit, where he played a pivotal role in its growth.
